Swim at a calm family beach until closing at 17:00

About this spot

Matoba Beach (的場海水浴場) in Takehara City (竹原市) is open in 2026 from Saturday 18 July to Thursday 20 August, from 9:00 to 17:00. With its gentle waves, it has a reputation as a family beach, and admission is free. Changing rooms are provided and there is parking for 50 cars, so arriving by car is easy. Only the shower rooms carry a fee, so you can rinse off sand and salt after playing and get ready to head home. From splashing at the water's edge to hunting for shells on the sand, enjoy the summer Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海) to the full until evening.

Tips

There are 50 parking spaces, so on weekends when crowds are expected, arriving early is reassuring. Using the shower rooms costs money, so have some change ready. Summer sand is too hot for bare feet, so beach sandals are a must. Closing is at 17:00, so allow time to change and aim to wrap up around 16:45.

From 13:00 the afternoon offers plenty of sunshine and a long stretch of swimming until closing in the evening
