About this spot

A townscape spreading through central Takehara (竹原), which flourished on salt production in the Edo period, where white-walled merchant houses and latticed buildings still stand eave to eave. Designated a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings (重要伝統的建造物群保存地区), its calm atmosphere has earned it the name Little Kyoto of Aki (安芸の小京都). Simply walking the narrow lanes and taking in the old streets gives you a real sense of travel, and the scale is just right for an unhurried stroll with children. Once you have walked it through, have lunch nearby and get ready for the afternoon at the beach.

竹原市の的場海水浴場は、2026年は7月18日(土)から8月20日(木)まで、9時から17時の間開設されます。波が穏やかでファミリー向けと評判のビーチで、入場は無料。更衣室が備わり、駐車場も50台分用意されているので、車での来場も安心です。シャワー室のみ有料となっているため、遊び終わったあとの砂や潮を流してから帰り支度ができます。波打ち際での水遊びから砂浜での貝殻探しまで、夕方まで思いきり夏の瀬戸内海を満喫しましょう。

Tips

駐車場は50台分あるので、混雑が予想される週末は早めの到着が安心です。シャワー室の利用には料金がかかるため、小銭を用意しておきましょう。夏の砂浜は素足では熱いのでビーチサンダルが必携です。営業終了は17時なので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。

Tips

Sightseeing is mostly on foot, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The summer sun is strong, so do not forget a hat and drinks. For toilets and a rest, use the tourist information facilities inside the preservation district. Having lunch early near the townscape leaves comfortable time to move on to the afternoon swim.
