A Kannon hall atop sheer cliffs at the tip of the Numakuma Peninsula (沼隈半島), formally known as Bandaiji Kannon-do (磐台寺観音堂). The many-islanded beauty of the Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海) seen from the vermilion hall is superb, and it is also known as a Kannon of safe childbirth, drawing devotion for easy births and child-rearing. It is close to the foot of the Utsumi Ohashi Bridge (内海大橋), with good access to Sea Park Ohama (シーパーク大浜) ahead. Stone steps lead up to the grounds, so watch your footing after your visit as you head for the sea.
Tips
Stone steps run from the car park to the hall, so it is not suited to visiting with a stroller. A baby carrier is reassuring. The coastal road gets strong sun, so do not forget a hat and plenty to drink.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. In the morning the light is soft and the sea views are at their finest
