An ancient shrine dedicated to Emperor Tenji with deep ties to Otsu's ancient capital. Also known as a holy site for competitive karuta (poetry card matching), the shrine buildings stand out with their vivid crimson color perfect for photos. The few visitors during the opening-time period mean you can walk through the quiet shrine grounds at leisure. The spacious grounds are well-maintained and easy to navigate, allowing even families with small children to visit comfortably. Spend some time with good posture before playing at the pool.
Tips
The shrine is within walking distance from Oji ga Oka Park Pool and easy to reach by car. Summer mornings are cool and comfortable, so visiting right after opening is recommended. The grounds have many paved paths and are easy for strollers, but there are some stairs, so a baby carrier is reassuring.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes required. The cool morning hours are most comfortable.
