Shimomogahama Beach in Fukuoka City's Higashi Ward Katsuma opens from July 11 (Saturday) to August 16 (Sunday), 2026. Adjacent to Kyukakulan Shika Island, about 800m of white sandy beach stretches before you, with clear Genkai Nada sea and open scenery. In addition to wave play on the sandy beach, tide pool play is another attraction of this beach, where you might encounter small shells and crabs by looking in rocky areas. Despite being an island accessible by just one bridge from Fukuoka city center, you can spend quiet beach time far from urban bustle.

Tips

Since it is adjacent to Kyukakulan Shika Island, consider using its facilities for rest and meals. The sandy beach has little shade, so prepare an umbrella, hat, and plenty of sunscreen. For tide pool play, water shoes are recommended to prevent injuries. From Fukuoka city, access is available by car or bus service to Shika Island.

Best time to visit

Afternoon from 2 PM onwards when the sun becomes slightly less intense, you can fully enjoy the sea and tide pools until evening.
