Yahata Plain Historic Site Park is a park developed on the ancient battlefield site where Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin are said to have fought one-on-one during the 1561 Battle of Kawanakajima. Scattered throughout the park are historic sites including statues of the two great warriors' one-on-one duel and burial mounds, surrounded by towering pine and cherry trees with spacious lawns creating a pleasant walking environment. The adjacent Nagano City Museum offers easy-to-understand exhibits on the Battle of Kawanakajima and local history, making it popular with history-loving children. The park also has a small animal interaction area, so children won't get bored beyond just historical exploration. Take a break in this verdant park and prepare yourself physically for an afternoon at the pool.
Tips
Parking is provided adjacent to the park. The Nagano City Museum charges an admission fee, so consider visiting if you have time. In summer, rest on shaded benches while walking makes for a more comfortable experience.
