Wooden Schoolhouse and Retro-Showa Townscape: A Stroll Through the Movie World
About this spot
A seaside movie theme park preserving and displaying the open set built for the film "Twenty-Four Eyes" (二十四の瞳). In the wooden schoolhouse classrooms, sit at small desks and chairs, then take photos pretending to be teacher and students in front of the blackboard. Throughout the park, fishermen's houses and a cinema are recreated, with a cafeteria serving Showa-era-style lunch sets, letting you soak in nostalgia with every step. Thanks to its location on a peninsula, the gentle Seto Inland Sea spreads endlessly beyond the school grounds. A stroll past the wooden schoolhouse and sea bathed in evening light is a fitting finale to your island date.
Tips
Entrance fee required; the village closes relatively early in the evening, so check closing time beforehand against your ferry schedule. The park involves lots of outdoor walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended. The cafeteria's retro-style lunch sets are popular and may sell out—order early if you find them.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours. As evening approaches, the backlit sea sparkles and the retro schoolhouse takes on a beautifully nostalgic glow.
