About this spot
This small, free-admission aquarium dedicated to crabs sits next to Karo-ichi. Watch Tottori's famous matsuba crabs up close, along with spectacular Japanese spider crabs—among the world's largest. Tanks display other creatures of the Sea of Japan, and a touch pool lets you gently interact with starfish and hermit crabs. The amusing sight of crabs waddling about draws smiles and creates the perfect lighthearted ending to your date. Despite its compact size, the exhibits are surprisingly comprehensive—well worth visiting despite the zero admission fee. Stroll leisurely together, each discovering your favorite crab along the way.
Tips
Since Kani-kko Kan is just a short walk from Karo-ichi, leave your car in the market parking lot. Wash your hands after touching creatures in the touch pool. The museum closes early, so plan your visit with adequate time.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. An evening visit is quieter, allowing you and your companion to linger peacefully before the tanks.
