Shirahama Beach (白浜海水浴場) in Toyo Town (東洋町), Kochi Prefecture, is open in 2026 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Saturday, July 11 to Monday, August 31. The shallow sand with gentle waves is fitted with a shark net and staffed with lifeguards, so even families with small children can play safely at the water's edge. Swimming is free, and showers are reasonably priced at 100 yen for 2 minutes of hot water or 3 minutes of cold. The parking lot is spacious and free with room for 175 cars, making arrival by car smooth. Beach huts line the sand, and together with the neighboring Shirahama Campsite (白浜キャンプ場), the area is set up so you can enjoy the sea all day long. Splash in the waves and play in the sand at the water's edge with the whole family until evening.

There are 175 free parking spaces, so arriving early is reassuring during peak season. Showers cost 100 yen for either 2 minutes of hot water or 3 minutes of cold, so keep some coins on hand. Swimming hours end at 5 p.m., so it's recommended to wrap up around 4:45 p.m. to allow time for changing. Even though a shark net and lifeguards are in place, keep an eye on small children at all times.
