About this spot

An inn of the Kiso-Fukushima hot spring, built on a hillside just steps from JR Kiso-Fukushima Station. It sits so high up that the floor with the entrance is effectively the second floor, and from the lobby and the dining area with its large windows, you can look out over the mountains and townscape of Kiso. Even the hallways inside are tatami-matted, and you can view the mountains of Kiso from the windows of the large communal bath as well. The checkpoint ruins and the Daikan residence you'll visit today are also located within this town of Kiso-Fukushima, making it a convenient starting point for a day tracing the history of the Kiso road.

Tips

You can explore on foot within walking distance of JR Kiso-Fukushima Station. There are many slopes and stone steps, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. It's hot in summer, so take breaks often and stay hydrated.

About 1 hour. From morning into early afternoon there are fewer tourists, so you can stroll at a relaxed pace
