About this spot

The remains of the residence of the Yamamura family, who served as Kiso magistrates throughout the Edo period. The shoin-style building and its meticulously maintained garden remain today, letting you picture the life of the magistrate who governed the Kiso Valley. Period furnishings and materials are also on display inside, making it a valuable place to learn about the history of the Kiso road. Spending time gazing at the quiet garden also makes for a good break between stretches of exploring the post town. It's a recommended spot for history-loving families as well.

Tips

You can walk here from Kiso-Fukushima post town. There are sections inside the residence where you must remove your shoes, so footwear that's easy to slip on and off is convenient. The garden's look changes with the seasons, so enjoy the scenery of whatever time of year you visit.
