Visit the historic Fukushima Barrier, one of the four major barriers on the Nakasendo

The ruins of a checkpoint that controlled travelers and goods passing through the Nakasendo during the Edo period. Counted as one of the four major barriers of the Nakasendo and Tokaido alongside Hakone, Niitsu, and Usui, it played an important role protecting the entrance to Kiso Valley. The museum displays travel permits required to pass through the barrier and exhibits showing inspection procedures, helping visitors understand the hardships of Edo-period travel. Surrounded by the Kiso River and mountains, you can appreciate why this location was chosen for the barrier. It's a historic site where families can walk and experience the barriers they learned about in history class.

2026年7月22日(水)、木曽川の河川敷を舞台に水無神社の例大祭を締めくくる花火大会が行われます。約1,000発の花火が19時50分から21時まで打ち上がり、木曽谷を囲む山々に音が反響して体に響く迫力を生み出します。山あいの澄んだ夜空に大輪の花火が次々と開く様子は、都会の花火大会とはひと味違うスケール感です。木曽川の水面に花火が映り込む瞬間も、この地ならではの美しい光景です。例大祭とともに受け継がれてきた、木曽福島の夏を締めくくる花火大会です。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は主催者の発表を確認しましょう。終了後は駅や駐車場へ向かう人で混み合うため、少し時間をずらしての移動がおすすめです。山あいの夜は冷えることがあるので、羽織ものを忘れずに。
