Yamakawa Port is a fishing port located in the southern part of Ibusuki City, which has prospered since ancient times as the gateway to the South Satsuma sea. Walking along the port, you can enjoy the peaceful scenery of fishing boats lining the dock alongside the beautiful sight of Kaimon-dake, called 'Satsuma Mt. Fuji.' Strolling while feeling the sea breeze brings a pleasant atmosphere unique to port towns even under summer sunshine. On clear days, you can enjoy the spectacular view where the blue of the sea, blue of the sky, and ridgeline of Kaimon-dake overlap. It's also recommended to view the port scenery during the day where tonight's fireworks will launch.

2026年7月20日(月・祝)、指宿市山川港周辺を舞台に山川みなと祭りの花火大会が行われます。20時から始まる花火は約2,200発と本数が多く、南薩摩の海と港町の夜空を華やかに彩ります。港に面した立地のため、花火が海面に映り込む光景も見どころのひとつです。地域を挙げての祭りとして親しまれており、港町ならではの活気とともに花火を楽しめます。開聞岳を望む山川の海辺で見上げる花火は、指宿の夏を締めくくるにふさわしい光景です。

Tips

荒天時は中止や日程変更となる場合があるため、当日の情報を確認しておくと安心です。終了後は駐車場や道路が混み合うため、少し余韻を楽しんでからの移動がおすすめです。海沿いは夜になると風が涼しくなるので、羽織ものがあると安心です。

Strong sunlight during midday, so a hat or parasol is recommended. Since port workers operate fishing boats, please walk along the side to avoid interfering with work. The next hot spring facility is accessible on foot or by taxi.
