About this spot

This mountain castle ruin, designated a national historic site, is said to have been built by the Harima warlord Akamatsu Enshin (赤松円心) during the Nanboku-cho period. Climbing to the roughly 440-meter summit reveals the remains of the main enclosure and parts of the stone walls, with sweeping mountain views, but even a walk near the foot of the mountain is enough to feel the historic mountain atmosphere. Amid the quiet of the lush green mountains, you can spend a moment reflecting on the history of Kamigori Town.

Tips

The trailhead is about 10 minutes by car from JR Kamigori Station. Reaching the summit calls for proper hiking gear, so families are advised to stick to walking near the foot of the mountain. Don't forget insect repellent and something to drink in summer.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. Mornings into early afternoon are relatively cool and easy for walking.
