About this spot

An old temple said to have been founded in the Hakuho period, widely known as a famous spot for kushaku-fuji (nine-shaku wisteria) that blooms in early summer. Even in summer, after the flowering season has passed, the green tunnel of the wisteria trellis and the calm temple grounds are perfect for a stroll. From the main hall built atop the hill, you can look out over Ichijima's satoyama scenery, and spend a quiet moment unique to a historic temple. Even amid the summer heat, the grounds, with plenty of shade, are also well suited for a family break.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from the Kasuga Interchange on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. Visiting is generally free and unrestricted, but some areas may be off-limits during events.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. From morning to early afternoon tends to be relatively cool and easy for walking
