About this spot

This aquarium faces the Chitose River (千歳川) and focuses mainly on freshwater fish. The biggest highlight inside is the underwater observation window, which lets you look directly into the river. Depending on the season, you can observe salmon swimming upstream up close. The displays of rare freshwater fish such as sturgeon are also substantial, offering content that both small children and adults can enjoy. Together with the neighboring roadside station, it's a beloved staple of Chitose sightseeing.

Tips

You can use the parking lot of the neighboring Michi-no-Eki Salmon Park Chitose (道の駅サーモンパーク千歳). Many areas inside allow photography, so taking pictures at the underwater observation window is also recommended. Taking a good look at the exhibits takes about an hour.

About 1 hour. It's enjoyable year-round, even outside the salmon-run season
