The remains of a star-shaped fort built by the Matsumae Domain in the late Edo period, designated a national historic site. Traces of the earthen ramparts still remain across the spacious green grounds, letting you enjoy a stroll while imagining what it looked like in its day. Also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot, in summer the lush lawns and trees create pleasant shade. It's a spot representative of Hokuto City where families can relax while getting a taste of history.
Tips
Access is basically by car from the Kamiiso area. Admission is free. The grounds are spacious and have some uneven terrain, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. From morning into midday is a cool time that's easy for strolling
