A history museum housed in the former buildings of Kabato Prison (樺戸集治監), which once stood in Tsukigata. Through period materials and exhibits, you can learn what role this place played in pioneer-era Hokkaido. The historic wooden buildings themselves are also worth seeing, and you can take your time viewing them in a quiet atmosphere. It's a valuable spot for learning about the origins of Tsukigata.

Tips

Convenient access by car from central Tsukigata. Check the admission fee at the facility information desk. Since the museum is mainly indoor exhibits, it's also a good place to rest during the hot hours of summer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. From morning into midday you can view at a relatively relaxed pace.
