Minatomachi (港町) in Otaru is the area where Pier No. 3 of the Port of Otaru is located. About a 15-minute walk from JR Otaru Station, the area is centered on the international passenger ship pier where large cruise ships dock, and redevelopment is underway to build a sightseeing boat terminal, a multipurpose hall, waterfront spaces, and green areas; in 2024 it was registered as Minato Oasis Otaru. On the day of the fireworks display, spectators gather from the evening onward. Spread out a picnic sheet to secure a spot, then enjoy the dinner you brought while watching the sky over the port shift from amber to indigo as you wait for the show to begin.

Tips

Roads in the area become very congested from the evening onward on the day of the fireworks display. It's reassuring to pick up food and drinks early. Also check restroom locations while it's still light out.
