About this spot

The central area of Onuma Quasi-National Park, made up of three lakes - Lake Onuma, Lake Konuma, and Lake Junsainuma - and 126 small islands. A well-maintained promenade lets you walk across bridges connecting the islands, and the view of Mt. Komagatake across the lake makes for a picturesque scene from anywhere. You can choose from a short course of about 30 minutes to a longer one of over an hour, so you can adjust the walking distance to suit your family's stamina. In summer the greenery is vivid, and the breeze crossing the lake's surface is pleasant. Onuma Park Plaza (大沼公園広場), where tonight's fireworks will be launched, is also just nearby.

Tips

About a 3-minute walk from JR Onuma Koen Station. Some sections of the promenade are unpaved, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Mornings and evenings can be chilly even in summer, so it's reassuring to bring something to layer on.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. From morning into midday tends to be relatively uncrowded and easy to walk.
