A relaxed time spent from the evening securing a spot at Onuma Park Plaza (大沼公園広場), the venue for the fireworks display. The plaza facing the lake has an open, spacious feel, and having a bite to eat while watching the sunset dye the lake's surface makes for a pleasant time before the fireworks. Since sunset comes late in Hokkaido summers and the bright hours last long, you can secure a spot without rushing, which is a nice bonus. Food stalls sometimes appear too, so enjoy the atmosphere of the day while waiting for the show to begin.

Tips

The area around the venue gets very crowded on the day, so arriving early is recommended if you want a good spot. Temperatures drop after sunset, so prepare something to layer on. It's also reassuring to check restroom locations while it's still light out.
