About this spot

This is one of the oji shrines scattered along the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route, where travelers on the Kumano pilgrimage have long prayed for safe passage. The Chikatsuyu settlement spreads out around it, and you can actually walk part of the old route to experience the atmosphere of this World Heritage site. The quiet path through the cedar groves offers a moment away from the bustle of the city.

Tips

Travel here by car from the roadside station. Wear comfortable walking shoes, as it's a mountain path. There's plenty of shade in summer, but be sure to stay hydrated.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. The afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is a comfortable time for a leisurely walk
