Ancient trees and famous spring water on the Kumano Kodo
About this spot
An area with an o-ji shrine remaining along the Kumano Kodo and a famous spring 'Nonaka no Shimizu' that has long quenched the thirst of pilgrims. Surrounded by towering cedar groves that seem to pierce the sky, clear water continues to flow today. Selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Springs, visitors can enjoy the fresh mountain air and cool, refreshing water in this mountain valley setting.

2026年7月25日(土)開催、熊野古道中辺路町栗栖川で行われる清姫まつりの花火です。世界遺産・熊野古道が通るこの地域ならではの静かな山あいの夜空に、花火が打ち上がります。周囲を山に囲まれた立地のため、街の花火大会とはひと味違う、山にこだまする音と光の迫力を体感できます。1日をかけて古道を歩いたあとに見る花火は、旅の締めくくりにふさわしい時間です。
Tips
山あいの会場のため、夜は想像以上に冷えることがあります。荒天時の開催可否は事前に確認しましょう。帰り道は足元が暗いため、ライトを準備しておくと安心です。
Tips
Travel by car from Chikaro-o. The spring also serves as a water source for local residents; please respect proper usage etiquette. With plenty of shade, it remains comfortably cool even in summer.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. Afternoon with dappled sunlight is particularly beautiful.
