About this spot

One of the provincial temples built nationwide by Emperor Shomu's edict during the Nara period, and the center of Buddhism in the Tohoku region at that time. Now developed as a historic park, the foundation stones and temple ruins show the scale of the former temple complex. The adjacent Yakushi Hall stands nearby, and walking through this quiet, serene atmosphere lets you forget the city's hustle and bustle. It's close to the Kasumi Garrison where tonight's fireworks will be held, making it a perfect conclusion to your historical exploration.

Tips

Accessible on foot from JR Miyagino-hara Station on the Tohoku Main Line. Admission is free. In summer, some areas have little shade, so remember to stay hydrated.
