About this spot

An observation deck in Basenkyo, a gorge along the Mabuchi River that forms the southern gateway to Ninohe City. Otokogami Rock, about 180 meters above the river surface, and Megami Rock, about 160 meters, are huge rocks said to be Japan's largest example of a married-couple rock pair, and their powerful appearance is the result of long years of erosion. From the observation deck you can take in both the townscape of Ninohe and both rocks at once, and also enjoy nature through the four seasons. The area was designated a prefectural natural park in 1962. Before heading to the fireworks venue at Kanadaichi Onsen, take in this view unique to Ninohe with your family.

Tips

There is some walking around the observation deck, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended for your visit.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. A relaxed time in the afternoon is recommended
