About this spot

This observatory sits atop Mt. Kanmine, the highest peak on Osakikamijima at 452 meters above sea level. It offers a 360-degree view of the large and small islands scattered across the Seto Inland Sea, and on clear days you can even see the mountains of Shikoku. Since you can drive nearly all the way to the summit, families can easily enjoy this spectacular view. It is the ideal spot to grasp the island's overall layout, letting you see how the townscape of Kinoe and the swimming beaches you will visit next are positioned in relation to each other.

Tips

Some sections of the road near the summit are narrow, so drive carefully. There is little shade around the observatory, so do not forget a hat and something to drink.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. From morning into early afternoon, when the air is clear, you can see the distant islands well.
