About this spot

An ancient temple known as the 20th temple of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage, quietly situated on the mountainside at high elevation. The temple grounds, surrounded by towering cedar trees, are enveloped in a solemn atmosphere, and as you ascend the approach path, you can feel yourself detaching from the noise of daily life. The historic three-story pagoda is also a highlight, offering a sense of the nature and deep faith unique to mountainous Katsuura Town.

Tips

From Michi no Eki Hinasato Katsuura, it takes about 20 minutes by car up a mountain road. The approach has many stone steps and slopes, so wear comfortable hiking shoes. In summer, there is much shade and it remains relatively cool.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour needed. Early afternoon has fewer pilgrims, allowing for a peaceful visit.
