Tour the gold mine tunnels that have continued since the Edo period

A historic gold mine site that represents Japan, where mining has continued for nearly 400 years since the Edo period. You can walk through and tour tunnels that recreate what mining looked like at the time, experiencing the weight of history as miners searched for gold. There is also a museum nearby where you can learn how Sado's gold mines supported the island's livelihood. Even in summer, the tunnels remain cool, allowing you to forget the heat outside.

佐渡金山とともに歩んできた相川の町を彩る、鉱山祭の花火大会です。会場の相川浜公園には約500発の花火が打ち上がり、日本海の上空を大きく彩ります。翌7月26日(日)にも開催されるため、島内の予定に合わせて訪れることができます。1日かけて金山の歴史と海の絶景を楽しんだあとに見上げる花火は、佐渡の夏らしい特別な締めくくりになります。

Tips

荒天時は中止となる場合があるため、当日の開催可否は佐渡市の公式発表で確認しましょう。終了後は周辺道路が混み合うため、少し時間をずらして帰るのがおすすめです。海沿いは足元が暗くなるので、懐中電灯があると安心です。

Tips

The tunnel floors can be wet in places, so visit in easy-to-walk shoes. The duration varies depending on the tour course, so it's best to plan with extra time. Since there's a temperature difference between the tunnels and outside in summer, bringing a cardigan is recommended.
