Also called “Little Edo Tochigi,” this is a historic townscape lined with white-walled storehouses and shopfront warehouses. Traces remain of the merchant town that once flourished through river transport from the Edo to Meiji periods, and long-established shops, cafes, and souvenir stores dot the street. Even just strolling slowly along the canal, you can savor the calm atmosphere unique to this warehouse town.
Tips
About a 20-minute drive from Kenshin-daira. Parking is available around places like the Kura no Machi Tourist Information Center. Some shops close early in the evening, so it is reassuring to finish shopping earlier in the day.
