About this spot
Towering over the plaza in front of Kanazawa Station's Kenkoku-guchi (East) Exit, this gate symbolizes the city's gateway. Two thick wooden columns twist while supporting the roof, modeled after the drums used in Noh theater, creating an impressive sight that draws gasps of wonder. The adjoining glass-walled 'Hospitality Dome' (もてなしドーム) expresses Kanazawa's spirit of hospitality—offering visitors an umbrella in this rainy city. The wooden lattice structure is incredibly photogenic, making it an essential spot for family photos.
Tips
Located in the station plaza and free to view. For best photos, step back from the gate to capture it all in frame. The Hospitality Dome below provides comfortable shelter on rainy days. Oyama Shrine is about a 20-minute walk away, and bus access is convenient.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 45 minutes. Afternoon lighting is often front-lit, beautifully capturing the shadows of the wooden lattice structure.
