About this spot

Said to have been founded in 701 (the first year of the Taihō era), this venerable shrine is considered the oldest Hachiman shrine in the Kanto region. Located in neighboring Shimotsuma City, its lush grounds hold a shrine hall that exudes a sense of history. Long cherished for warding off bad luck and praying for safe childbirth, its quiet grounds are also a perfect place to escape the summer heat and catch your breath.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from Michi-no-Eki Yachiyo. Visiting the shrine is free, and you're welcome to explore the grounds freely. In summer, the shade of the trees is pleasant and makes for a good rest spot.

About 1 hour. Early afternoon tends to be relatively calm for a peaceful visit
