About this spot

A nationally known archaeological park where settlement remains spanning the Jomon, Kofun, and Heian periods were discovered. Reconstructed pit dwellings are dotted across the grounds, and you can actually step inside to experience how people lived at the time. There is also a spacious lawn where children can run around between visits to the ruins. The adjoining museum displays excavated artifacts, making the region's long history easy to understand.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from the Hirooka district. Much of the visit is outdoors in summer, so do not forget a hat and plenty of water. The museum may charge an admission fee, so check in advance.
