About this spot

This unmanned station on the JR Iida Line (JR飯田線) clings to a cliff along the Tenryu River (天竜川). With almost no houses nearby and a cliff right behind the station, it's counted as one of Japan's nationally known secluded stations (秘境駅). The sight of just a small wooden station building and platform standing alone quietly tells the story of people who have lived amid the harsh mountain terrain. Children are sure to be fascinated by this railway scene, one you rarely encounter in daily life. It's common to explore the station while waiting for a train.

Tips

Access by road is limited; you'll need to drive nearby and then walk the rest of the way. Some sections have uneven footing, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Since trains run infrequently, it's safest to keep your time at the station short.

About 45 minutes. In the late afternoon, the sunlight softens, making it easier to walk around
