Held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, this fireworks display brings to a close the ‘Onneyu Onsen Festival (おんねゆ温泉まつり)’, which has continued since the pre-festival on August 1. The venue, the banks of the Mukagawa River (無加川), is right next to the hot spring town, and the fireworks launch into the night sky while lighting up the surface of the river. Concentrated into a short span of time, the fireworks combine with the lights of the hot spring town to create a scene full of atmosphere. It's a festival with a warm, homey feel rooted in the local community.

Since the event runs for a short 20 minutes starting at 8:00 PM, secure your spot with plenty of time to spare beforehand. It may be canceled in bad weather, so check Kitami City's official announcement on the day. Roads in the hot spring town get crowded afterward, so it's recommended to walk without rushing.
