About this spot

The signature feature of the Irumagawa Tanabata Festival, this shopping street is adorned overhead with vividly colored Tanabata decorations. During the festival, the street is filled from end to end with decorations large and small, letting you soak in the festive summer atmosphere just by walking through. Food stalls and vendors line the route, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll while enjoying street food. Crowds grow larger as evening approaches, so an earlier time is best if you want to take in the decorations at a relaxed pace.

Tips

Within walking distance from Sayama-shi Station. During the festival the street often becomes pedestrian-only and gets very crowded. When eating on the go, use the space in front of shops and keep an eye on your valuables. From here, you can walk to the Iruma River riverbed next.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Before evening, the decorations are easiest to see and stalls are just starting to line up
