Riverbank Picnic Lunch and Shallow Water Play
About this spot
The Tamatae Riverbank (玉淀の河原), a designated scenic beauty spot also called 'Saitama's Nagaroro,' features gentle flowing sections of the Arakawa River ideal for simple water play such as stone skipping and rock collecting. The steep cliffs of Hatagatayama Castle ruins (鉢形城跡) rise on the opposite bank, making a picnic lunch while enjoying the scenery truly special. In summer, the area is bustling with families seeking the coolness of the riverside.
Tips
Never take your eyes off children, even in shallow water, and keep them away from fast-flowing areas and deep spots. Water shoes are safer than bare feet. There is little shade, so bringing a tarp or hat will make your stay more comfortable.
Best time to visit
Allow 1.5 hours. Around noon is ideal picnic weather.
