Nestled beside Sagaseki Port, this shrine has long been revered as the guardian deity of maritime safety and a ward against misfortune. Part of the shrine buildings are designated as cultural properties of Oita Prefecture and stand as a symbolic landmark of the harbor town. The shrine is particularly known for its unique custom of 'octopus-abstinence prayers,' in which devotees offer octopus drawings and abstain from eating octopus for a set period—a tradition deeply woven into local life. The summer festival held tonight has historical ties to this sacred shrine.

Just a short drive from Michi-no-Eki Sagaseki and within walking distance of Sagaseki Port. Shrine visits are free. On the festival day itself, expect larger crowds than usual, so an early afternoon visit will allow for a more leisurely experience.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 45 minutes. The shrine grounds offer plenty of shaded areas beneath trees, providing respite from the summer sun.
