The townscape of Ouda, where medicine wholesalers have lined the streets since the Edo period, is designated a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Walking along the street of white-walled townhouses, you'll come across buildings and merchant shop signs that carry the atmosphere of the past, giving you the feeling of stepping back in time. Historical museums are also scattered throughout the area, making it a great place to explore Yamato's herbal medicine culture.
Tips
Within walking distance of the roadside station. Sunlight can be strong in summer, so don't forget a hat and to stay hydrated. Watch for passing cars as you walk through the townscape.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. Early afternoon tends to be relatively calm for strolling.
