About this spot

An old temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, known as the Temple of Enku Buddhas (円空仏の寺) for the many Buddhist statues carved by the Edo-period monk Enku (円空) that have been passed down here. The temple grounds spread across a mountainside are lush and green, wrapped in the quiet air typical of a Hida mountain village. At the Enku Buddha Treasure Hall (円空仏寺宝館), you can view the Enku Buddha statues up close and take in their simple yet powerful expressions. Begin your day of fireworks with a relaxed encounter with Hida's history and faith.

Tips

About 15 to 20 minutes by car from the Nyukawa Branch Office. Admission includes entry to the temple treasure hall. Some areas involve walking on mountain paths, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
