About this spot

An ancient temple representing Ishii Town, said to be where Kobo Daishi Kukai studied in his youth. Also known as a branch temple (bangai fusatsu) of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, the lush temple grounds offer a peaceful atmosphere. While the temple is famous as a spring plum blossom site, the verdant summer grounds are equally charming, and it is the perfect place to pause and catch your breath during your visit. Begin your day here by calming your spirit before starting your journey.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from the center of Ishii Town. The grounds are surrounded by nature, so insect repellent is recommended during the summer months. There is a short walk from the parking lot, so wear comfortable shoes.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Late morning through early afternoon is the quietest time to visit and pay your respects in peace.
