About this spot

This is one of Sado's leading temples, known as an old temple associated with Kobo Daishi. The grounds, surrounded by giant cedar trees, are dotted with halls that convey a sense of history, wrapped in a quiet, solemn atmosphere. Located in one of the island's especially lush, green areas, you can take a leisurely walk through the cool summer shade while visiting. It's a place where you can feel a calmer side of Sado, quite different from the port towns.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from Akadomari Port. The grounds have stone steps and slopes, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. With plenty of shade, it stays relatively cool even in summer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The afternoon, when sunlight filters through the trees, is especially recommended.
