Hama Zoo (Hamamatsu City Zoo)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A municipal zoo sprawling across green hills overlooking Lake Hamana. Home to around 100 species of animals, from popular residents like polar bears, lions, and giraffes to rare small primates found nowhere else in the world. The park is connected by shaded walking paths along winding slopes surrounded by trees, allowing visitors to stroll through as if on a forest hike. Adjacent to the zoo is Hamamatsu Flower Park, making this an ideal morning starting point for the Tatsutagawa Temple area.

Tips

Admission is an affordable 500 yen for adults, and children below junior high school age enter free—a welcome bonus for families with children. The park has many slopes, so a baby carrier is recommended for small children. The parking lot is paid but spacious. Animals are most active early in the morning right after opening.

Best time to visit

Plan for about 2 hours. The morning hours right after opening are recommended when animals are most active.
