Walk through the town landscape telling the history of river crossings in the Edo period
About this spot
As the song goes 'Koshi ni kosarenui Oi River,' there were no bridges in the Edo period, and travelers crossed the Oi River with the help of river crossing porters. This historic site preserves the town landscape that was the base of river crossings, with buildings such as the number house and river office preserved and restored. Walk through an atmosphere as if you've stepped back into the Edo period and reflect on the history of the Oi River and travelers. The adjacent Shimada City Museum offers more detailed exhibits.
