This is the central district of Ito, known as one of Izu's leading hot-spring resorts. Willow trees line the Matsu River as it flows through town, with long-established inns, restaurants, and souvenir shops lining the streets. A leisurely walk along the riverside promenade lets you feel the calm, distinctive atmosphere of a spa town. Watching the festival mood gradually build toward evening is also a pleasure unique to this time of day.
Tips
About 10 minutes on foot or by car from Ito Marine Town. Some stretches along the Matsu River have little shade, so a hat is reassuring.
