A Showa-retro market standing on the banks of the Nagata River (永田川) in central Naze. Loved together with the neighboring Suehiro Market (末広市場) as the 'community's kitchen,' it's lined with small stalls — from long-established butcher shops and dried-goods stores to shops selling home-roasted coffee, cafes, general stores, and galleries. Pick up dinner here before heading to Shiohama-cho, Naze (名瀬塩浜町), the fireworks venue. On the day of the Amami Festival, you can feel the island's distinctive lively atmosphere. As the day begins to fade, spend some relaxed time with your family here while waiting for the show to start.

Tips

You'll drive back from the Tanaka Isson Memorial Art Museum (in Kasari-cho) to central Naze. Shops near the fireworks venue get crowded right before the show, so it's best to buy your food during this time.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. It's a comfortable time to be out as things start to cool down before sunset.
