About this spot

This is the former site of Kameyama Castle, the seat of the Kameyama domain that flourished as a key point on the Tokaido during the Edo period. The surviving Tamon Turret is a precious structure, the only remaining castle building in Mie Prefecture. The castle ruins are now maintained as a park beloved by local residents, and the walking path along the stone walls offers views over the town of Kameyama. The green, tree-shaded grounds are also a perfect spot to rest your feet after strolling through the post town. It is a chance to fully experience Kameyama's history before the evening fireworks.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Sekijuku. Since the interior of the Tamon Turret is open to the public only on limited days, viewing the exterior is the main draw. The park has plenty of benches, so you can relax and take breaks as you go.

About 1 hour. Before evening, you can relax in the cool shade of the trees
