The Sanno-maru Plaza at Sasayama Castle Ruins serves as both the main venue for the Dekansho Festival and tonight's fireworks festival venue. As evening falls, the lights of food stalls begin to glow, and circles of dancers performing the Dekansho dance—a bon dance representative of Tanba Sasayama—expand throughout the area. Enjoying takeout dinner while watching the dancing's excitement is one of the pleasures unique to a summer festival. Spend the time before the fireworks begin leisurely, immersed in the castle town's summer festival atmosphere.
Tips
The area surrounding the venue becomes very crowded during the festival period, so using public transportation is recommended. Secure food from the stalls early. At night, insects increase, so don't forget insect repellent measures.
Best time to visit
Approximately 3 hours required. The time after sunset when lantern lights glow and the excitement of the dancing reaches its peak.
