This is a coastline of majestic cliffs facing the Sea of Japan, stretching west from Iwanai Town toward Rankoshi Town and Suttsu Town. The contrast between the clear, emerald-green sea and the sheer rock walls is beautiful, and it is known as one of Hokkaido's finest scenic drive routes. From the viewpoints scattered along the way, you can slowly take in the dynamic scenery of the Sea of Japan. Take in the grandeur of the sea by day, before it lights up with fireworks tonight.
Tips
The road has many curves, so please drive carefully. Viewpoint spaces are limited, so be mindful of your surroundings when parking. Even in summer, the sea breeze can be cool, so it's reassuring to bring something to layer on.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour and 30 minutes needed. In the afternoon when sunlight is strong, the color of the sea looks especially beautiful.
