About this spot

This ancient temple, affectionately known as Nenogongen (子ノ権現), is said to bring blessings for the health of the legs and hips, and has long drawn worshippers praying for strong legs and feet. Its grounds are lined with giant straw sandal offerings, whose striking appearance is quite memorable. Located on a mountainside, the temple also offers a fine view over the mountains of Hanno. It sits partway along the mountain road leading to Takedera, making it a convenient spot for an unhurried visit combined with a rest.

Tips

About a 30-minute drive from Lake Miyazawa (宮沢湖); since you will be driving mountain roads, follow your car navigation and drive safely. There are stairs up to the temple grounds, so wear comfortable walking shoes. A mountain road connects to Takedera, but since the distance is considerable, it is common to travel there by car.
