About this spot

This is a deep gorge carved over a long span of years by the Yufu River, a scenic spot celebrated for its beauty as the Tyrol of the Orient. The rock walls rise vertically from both banks, reaching several dozen meters at their highest, and the sight of numerous thin waterfalls trickling down the moist, moss-covered rock face has an air of mystery. The sound of water echoing up from the valley floor is thoroughly powerful, and peering in from the observation deck, you'll find yourself catching your breath at a depth that seems to draw you in. The contrast between the surrounding greenery and the rock walls is beautiful, offering one camera-worthy moment after another. It's a spot where you can experience the sculpted beauty of the earth, a different flavor from the bright highland scenery elsewhere on the drive.

Tips

The area around the gorge is often shaded, and the ground underfoot can be damp and slippery, so wear shoes with a solid sole. Leaning out over the observation deck's railing is strictly forbidden, and small children should never be left unattended. Access to the point where you can descend into the valley may be restricted depending on conditions, so follow the on-site signage.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Early afternoon, when sunlight filters through the greenery, is when the mossy rock face looks its most beautiful.
